How to Apply for Google AdSense : Easy Setup for Bloggers to Start Earning
Apply Google AdSense in 3 Simple Steps and Start Earning Passive Income
If you already have your own website or blog, you can use Google AdSense to display ads and earn passive income. This is one of the most common monetization methods for bloggers and content creators.
In this article, I’ll share my personal experience applying for AdSense, step by step.
What Is Google AdSense?
These ads come from businesses around the world that use Google Ads to promote their products or services.
In simple terms:
-
Advertisers pay Google to show ads through Google Ads.
-
Publishers (like bloggers, website owners, or YouTubers) provide ad space through Google AdSense.
-
When users interact with those ads, publishers earn revenue.
This creates a win-win system where Google connects advertisers with publishers, allowing both sides to benefit.
How Google AdSense Works
- You offer space on your website for ads.
- The highest-bidding ads are displayed automatically.
- You earn money from clicks or impressions.
To become a publisher, you’ll need to:
- Apply for a Google AdSense account.
- Embed the AdSense code into your website.
- Wait for your earnings to start accumulating.
For bloggers, the beauty of AdSense lies in its automation. Once you’ve set it up, Google handles the rest — selecting and displaying ads based on your website content and visitor interests.
For example, if your blog is about travel, you may see ads related to hotels, flights, or travel insurance.
Of course, you can also take a more hands-on approach — experimenting with ad placement, size, and format to find the best layout for your site and maximize your AdSense income.
How AdSense Revenue Works
The revenue from Google AdSense mainly comes from Cost Per Click (CPC) and Revenue Per Mille (RPM).
Cost Per Click (CPC)
This is how much you earn whenever a user clicks an ad. The rate varies depending on the advertiser and the topic.
Revenue Per Mille (RPM)
This represents the estimated earnings per 1,000 ad impressions.
The formula is: RPM = (Estimated Earnings ÷ Page Views) × 1000
Examples:
If 45,000 ad impressions bring an estimated $180 USD
> RPM = ($180 ÷ 45,000) × 1000 = $4.00 USD
Google also offers a revenue calculator to help estimate potential earnings based on location and website category.

Application Requirements and Eligibility
To apply, you’ll need:
◆ 1. Age 18 or Older
Applicants must be 18 years old. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian may register using their Google account. Once the AdSense account is approved, all payments will be issued to that adult. (Yes, Google really does allow this — surprisingly considerate!)
◆ 2. Website Platform
You need access to your site’s HTML so you can add the AdSense verification code.
Self-hosted sites (e.g., WordPress, Blogger): Add the code manually.
Hosted platforms (e.g., YouTube): Can apply for a hosted AdSense account.
Note: Hosted accounts can only run ads on the partner platform. A standard AdSense account allows multiple websites.
◆ 3. Website Content
Your site should meet the following criteria:
- Visually appealing layout (images + text are a plus)
- Clear navigation (menus, categories, dropdown lists, etc.)
- Original content, consistently published in reasonable quantity
Avoid plagiarism, low-effort posts, or content farms.
◆ 4. Compliance with Program Policies
Publishers must follow the Google Publisher Policies, including:
- No clicking your own ads
- No asking others to click ads
- No fake traffic
- No artificially inflate ad performance
- No misleading ad placement
Violations can lead to permanent account suspension.
Three Steps to Apply for a Google AdSense Account
Once you meet the requirements, applying is very straightforward.
Step 1: Sign Up for an AdSense Account
Fill out the required information to create your account.
Step 2: Enter Your Payment Details
In your AdSense dashboard, go to Payments and follow the instructions.
Step 3: Connect Your Website
If you’re using Google Blogger like I am, then all you need to do is go to your Blogger dashboard, click “Earnings”, and link it directly to Google AdSense — no manual coding required.
Final Step: Wait for Review
Review and Approval Time
Approval times vary. Some users get approved within a week, others may wait a few weeks.
During the waiting period, it's a good idea to keep updating your content and optimize your site design, so that it looks its best when the reviewer visits.
When I applied, my blog looked like this:
| Blog Status | Details |
|---|---|
| Age | ~3 years |
| Posts | ~200 articles |
| Total Pageviews | ~20,000 |
| Daily Views | 50–200 |
| Niche Popularity | Very small and low-traffic |
Even with these modest stats, I was approved in 13 business days.
Conclusion
If your website has a decent amount of original content, is regularly updated, and has a clear structure, your chances of getting approved by Google AdSense are fairly high.
However, earning significant income from AdSense takes time.
According to one blog owner’s experience, a personal website with about 50,000 monthly pageviews may earn roughly around $80 USD per month.
For me, my blog is mainly a platform to share what I enjoy. The ad revenue is just a little bonus — I take it in a very relaxed, no-pressure way.
